Music Production Workshop (ages 14-adult)

This is an in-person 5-day workshop. This program offers the ins and outs of producing DIY recordings at a variety of different levels. We will be exploring the many facets of music production including:
  • Getting around your digital audio workstation (DAW)
  • Discovering and manipulating sounds
  • Music composition and arranging
  • Recording techniques for vocals and other acoustic instruments
  • Recording techniques for electronic instruments
  • Mixing and Mastering
We will be setting up 6-12 socially-distanced workstations within our facility, and students will be grouped in workstations according to their interests.  They will choose from 3 different tracks:
  1. Production for Singers and Songwriters: We don’t know a single professional songwriter who isn’t also a music producer, and every songwriter knows that their skill in the studio has a huge impact on their compositions. Participants who choose this option we will spend more time working with acoustic instruments, and their focus will be on getting great basic tracks, arranging and mixing their songs. We also recommend this option for all singers, and songwriting isn’t a requirement. We recommend choosing Logic as your DAW for this program.
  2. Computer Music Producer: If you are a DJ, EDM artist or someone who composes all your music with your computer, then this is definitely the track for you! We will help you dig deeper into your DAW, and we will focus on electronic instruments, sounds, loops, editing and more! We recommend Ableton or FL Studio for this option.
  3. Instrumental Music Producer: Are you an instrumentalist who wants to explore a little of everything? If so, this is the option for you. We will give you all the tools you need in order to record your instruments of choice, and we will help you get to know the ins and outs of your DAW. We will go as far as time allows to help you get the most out of this program!

Participants will present their newly produced music in a special concert on Friday, August 20th from 2-3:30pm.  The performance will feature variety of musical styles performed by singers, instrumentalists and some recorded presentations by computer music producers.
