Chamber Music Audition Requirements
Chamber Music Auditions
Thank you for your interest in Coast Music’s Chamber Music Programs!
Our goal with these auditions is to:
- To get to know you and learn to about your experience, goals and aspirations.
- Determine readiness for our chamber music program.
- Get a sense for your current level of musicianship in a variety of areas. This will help us place students in groups that will challenge, but not overwhelm.
- To answer any questions you may have about our chamber music program and other programs.
String Instruments
- Play 2 two-octave major scales both arco and pizzicato
- Play 2 one-octave minor scales either arco or pizzicato (your choice)
- Play 1 arpeggio either arco or pizzicato (your choice)
- Perform the reading examples presented to you. These examples will not be difficult, and advanced sight reading is not required.
- Please play 1 piece with at least 2 contrasting sections or 2 short pieces.
Woodwinds and Brass
- Play 2 two-octave major scales.
- Play 2 one-octave minor scales.
- Play 1 arpeggio of your choice.
- Perform the reading examples presented to you. These examples will not be difficult, and advanced sight reading is not required.
- Please play 1 piece with at least 2 contrasting sections or 2 short pieces.
Pianists
- 2 two-octave major scales
- 2 two-octave minor scales
- 2 chord inversions of your choice (triads or seventh chords). Please play in all inversions both harmonically and melodically
- Perform the reading examples presented to you or emailed to you. These examples will not be difficult, and advanced sight reading is not required.
- Please play 1 piece with at least 2 contrasting sections or 2 short pieces.
