Band Songs:

Try Everything (Shakira)
Bones (Imagine Dragons)
Flowers (Miley Cyrus)
Dandelions (Ruth B)

*Listen to all the songs repeatedly to absorb the chord changes and form.  It’s much easier to learn to play a song after you already KNOW it.

*You will find videos for each band member outlining exactly what they need to play on each song.

*Gisele and Cooper are sharing the vocal on “Try Everything”.

*Maddie is singing “Bones”.

*Cooper is the main lead singer for “Flowers”.  Sienna and Gisele will sing some lead parts but mostly sing on the chorus.

We are playing “Flowers” in the key of C#mi which is different than the original recording.  It is crucial that all band members (except Ben) practice exclusively with this transposed track:

Ben

Cooper

PLEASE work on the timing for Try Everything, especially in the verse.  The Phrasing is unusual and the pauses are crucial.

Gisele

PLEASE remember to choose a song you would like to sing with the band.  Amy is great with coming up with ideas.

Super Important:  Work on the timing for Try Everything.  Especially in the verse.  The phrasing is extremely unconventional and there are pauses where you don’t expect them.

Bones:

Keytar setting 317

Maddie

Your primary focus should be on you Enemy vocals this week.  This song is tricky because we are jumping up the octave for the verses and it can be hard to hear where the correct note is.  Please work on that in your private lessons.  Also try to sing this song will POWER!  🙂

Max

Flowers:

This is the trickiest song in our set.  Please practice the whole song paying special attention to the transitions:
1. End of the Verse: Play the 4th fret of the E string
2. End of the Chorus: Play the 5th fret of the E string followed by the 4th fret of the E string

Try Everything

1. Please practice the Bridge.
2. For the rest of the song, remember the form starts AND ends on C# so you have to play that note again at the beginning of every progression.

Bones

It would be great if you could learn this super cool bass breakdown part for the end of the bridge when it’s just you playing instead of playing the simplified bass line.

Sienna

Please don’t get discouraged with Try Everything.  You are doing great.  The place that is getting you off of the form is when the progression ends on C# and also starts on C#.  You need to play the 4 beats at the end of the progression PLUS the 4 beats at the beginning of the progression.  Let me know if you have any questions about that.
